Pyramid Drinking Game – Card Game Rules

Pyramid is a classic card game where 15 cards are laid out in a pyramid, and you can hand out or take sips based on the cards in your hand. For 3–8 players with a deck of cards.

The Pyramid
1 sip
2 sips
3 sips
4 sips
5 sips
Row 1 (bottom) → Row 5 (top)

How to play

  1. Deal 4–5 cards to each player – keep them hidden from the others.
  2. Place the remaining cards in a pyramid shape in the center: 5-4-3-2-1 (bottom row to top row).
  3. Start with the bottom row – flip one card at a time.
  4. Do you have (or claim to have) a card with the same value? → Point at anyone and hand out sips!
  5. Number of sips = row number from the bottom (row 1 = 1 sip, row 5 = 5 sips).
  6. The challenge: You MUST show your card if someone challenges you!
  7. If you're caught lying → you drink DOUBLE!
  8. If you're honest and no one believes you → the challenger drinks double!
  9. Play through all 15 cards in the pyramid – then the game is done.

🎭 Bluff rules

🃏You can bluff about having a card – but the risk is high!
📈The higher up in the pyramid, the more worthwhile it is to bluff.
🧠The strategy is to save "good" cards for the top rows.

Tips and tricks

  • Remember what you've handed out – you can't use the same card twice.
  • Observe who bluffs a lot – and challenge them strategically!
  • The top card (1 card at the top) = 5 sips = golden ticket!
  • Keep your poker face – everyone will try to read you!

How to play Pyramid

Setup:

  1. The dealer lays out 15 cards face down in a pyramid: 5 cards at the bottom, then 4-3-2-1.
  2. The remaining cards are dealt to the players (3-4 cards per player depending on the number).
  3. Players look at their cards without showing them to the others.

How to play:

  1. The dealer starts flipping cards at the bottom of the pyramid (row 1 = 1 sip, row 2 = 2, etc.).
  2. When a card is flipped, any player with a matching card value in their hand can "send" sips to another player.
  3. Challenge: You can lie about your cards! But if the player you send to challenges you (and you're lying), you take double the penalty.
  4. The top card in the pyramid gives 5 sips.

Pyramid rules – the sip scale

  • Row 1 (5 cards): 1 sip per card
  • Row 2 (4 cards): 2 sips per card
  • Row 3 (3 cards): 3 sips per card
  • Row 4 (2 cards): 4 sips per card
  • Top (1 card): 5 sips

Bluffing in Pyramid

Bluffing is a central part of Pyramid. You can claim to have a matching card even if you don't – and send sips to whoever you want. But if the other player challenges you and you're lying, you drink double. If you're honest and no one believes you, the challenger drinks double. The higher up in the pyramid, the more profitable – and risky – it is to bluff.
