Never Have I Ever – Drinking Game Rules and Questions

Never Have I Ever is the classic confessions drinking game where you reveal what you've never done — and drink if you actually have. For 3–10 players, no equipment needed.

How to Play Never Have I Ever

The rules are simple:

  1. Everyone sits in a circle with a drink in front of them.
  2. One player starts by saying "Never have I ever..." followed by something they have never done.
  3. Everyone who has done it drinks.
  4. The next player takes their turn.
  5. There is no winner — the game is about getting to know each other (and getting a little tipsy).

Some play with 10 fingers — you start with all 10 fingers up, and fold one down (or drink) for each statement that applies to you. The first to run out of fingers (or drink) is out.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the rules for Never Have I Ever?

A player says "Never have I ever [something]". Everyone who has done it drinks one sip. Then the next player takes their turn. There is no winner — the game continues until you're done or the drinks are empty.

What are good "Never Have I Ever" statements?

The best statements are personal and a bit revealing — things you know someone in the group has probably done. Avoid things nobody has done (boring) or things everyone has done (then everyone always drinks).

What is the finger version of Never Have I Ever?

Everyone starts with all 10 fingers up. For each statement that applies to you, fold one finger down. The first person to fold all 10 fingers is "out" (and has done the most things). A fun variant with no need for drinks.

Can Never Have I Ever be played without alcohol?

Absolutely! Swap in soda, juice, or water. The game is about revelations and laughter, not alcohol. Perfect as an icebreaker at a party or as a get-to-know-you game.

How many players does Never Have I Ever suit?

The game works best with 4–8 players. With 3 there's little variety; with over 10 the rounds get too long. The ideal group size is 5–7.
