How to Play the Dice Drinking Game
Players take turns rolling a die. Each number on the die corresponds to an action or number of sips. Standard rules: 1 = drink 1, 2 = drink 2, and so on up to 5. The dice game is perfect for 2–10 players and needs no preparation.
In the Opus variant the phone is passed around the circle while the music plays. Whoever is holding it when the drop hits must finish their drink. You can only pass it on by rolling a 6.
Rules for the Dice Drinking Game

- House rules vary — many groups create their own rules for specific numbers.
- In the Opus variant: only a 6 lets you pass the phone on.
- A 1 in Opus = reverse — the phone is passed back one person.
Frequently Asked Questions about the Dice Drinking Game
What does each number on the die mean?
In the standard rules, numbers 1–5 mean you drink that many sips. A 6 usually gives you the option to hand out sips or make up a new rule. Many groups create their own house rules for specific numbers.
Can you make up your own rules?
Absolutely! That's one of the most fun parts of the dice drinking game. Decide, for example, that a 4 means everyone drinks, or that a 2 means you can point to someone else who drinks for you.
Do you need a physical die?
No! You can use the digital 3D die on this page. It gives you a random number between 1 and 6 every time you tap "Roll the Dice."
How many players is this game suitable for?
The dice drinking game works for 2–10 players. If you have many participants, you can use two dice to keep the pace up.
Can you play the Dice game without alcohol?
Yes, just replace alcohol with soda, juice, or water. The rules work just as well — you can drink sips of soda, or let the losers do a fun forfeit instead.
