How to play:

  1. Two players face each other – it's a duel!
  2. Press "New starting word" to get a random word that both players see.
  3. Player 1 says a word they associate with the starting word.
  4. Player 2 immediately says a word they associate with the previous word.
  5. The timer is 3 seconds per turn. Tap it to reset for the next player.
  6. If you hesitate, repeat a word, or say something totally unrelated → drink 2 sips!
  7. Use the "Won the round" button to keep track of wins. Tournament format recommended!

Word Association Duel is a lightning-fast drinking game for exactly 2 players where you duel in word associations against the clock. Choose a starting word, tap the timer and alternate association words back and forth – you only have 3 seconds. The one who hesitates, repeats a word, or says something unrelated drinks 2 sips!

The game works perfectly as a warm-up game or as a 1v1 challenge in tournament format. With 25 different starting words there's plenty of variety for many rounds.

Rules

  • A random starting word is shown; Player 1 says an association word, then Player 2 uses the previous word as the starting point.
  • The timer is 3 seconds per turn – tap it to start and reset for the next player.

  • Use the "Won the round" button to keep score; recommended to play best of 5 or 7 rounds.

Frequently asked questions about Word Association Duel

Can you play Word Association Duel with more than 2 players?

The game is designed for 2 players in a direct duel. If you have a larger group, we recommend playing in tournament format where winners meet in semifinals and finals.

What happens if both players say a word at the same time?

If both say a word at the same time, it counts as no one's turn – reset the timer and start the round over from the last accepted word.

Are proper nouns allowed as association words?

Yes, proper nouns like "Paris", "Elvis" or "McDonald's" are allowed as long as they are clearly associated with the previous word. It's up to the group to decide borderline cases.

Can you change the starting word mid-game?

Yes, use the "New starting word" button at any time to get a new random word and start a fresh round. The score is not reset by this.

How many starting words are in the game?

The game has 25 different starting words ranging from simple everyday words to slightly more challenging concepts, ensuring variety from round to round.
